Family Therapy: Calmer Conversations at Home, Grounded in Faith
Calmer conversations at home, with a Muslim counsellor who understands family, culture and faith.
- Free 15-minute consultation first
- Covered by most benefits plans
- Online, evenings and weekends
In short: Family therapy helps parents, children and other family members talk to and understand each other better, with a licensed Muslim counsellor who understands the role of family, culture and faith. Sessions can include the whole family or a few members, are 50 minutes, held online across Canada, and cost $175 (covered by most insurance plans).
Every family has hard seasons. Arguments that go in circles, a teen who's stopped talking, parents who don't agree on how to raise the kids, or extended family pulling in different directions. When it's your own family, it's hard to see the pattern, and harder to change it.
Family therapy gives everyone a neutral, faith-aware space to be heard. Your counsellor helps you understand what's really going on and build new ways of talking, so home feels calmer. Not everyone has to join at first, and you can start with whoever is ready.
You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support.
- Parent and teen conflict
- Parenting disagreements and co-parenting
- Communication that keeps breaking down
- Cultural and generational differences
- Blended families and step-parenting
- Extended family and in-law tension
- Changes like a move, a separation or a loss
- Supporting a family member through a hard time
The Islamic perspective
Islam places family at the centre of life, with rights and responsibilities in every direction: to parents, to children and to each other. The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of you are those who are best to their families." Our counsellors understand these values and the respect owed to elders, and help families honour them while still giving every member a voice. Faith is brought in as much as your family wants.

Questions before you start
A non-profit, trusted by our community
A Zakat-eligible non-profit recognized by the Canadian Council of Imams and AMJA. More than 2,000 people reached out to us last year.
Does the whole family need to attend?
No. You can start with whoever is ready, even one parent. Others can join later, once they see it's neutral and confidential.
Can my teen have some sessions on their own?
Yes. Many families mix joint sessions with one-on-one time for a teen. Your counsellor explains how confidentiality works for everyone at the start.
Will the counsellor take sides?
No. Your counsellor's role is to help every family member be heard, including the quieter ones, and to focus on the pattern, not on blame.
Can sessions be in Arabic, Urdu or another language?
Often, yes. Our counsellors speak many languages. Choose your language on the form and we'll match you.
