Zakat policy

Zakat-compliant Muslim counselling across Canada

Recognized by the Canadian Council of Imams and the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America, with allocation overseen by a board of qualified Imams.

In short: Canadian Muslim Counselling is an established Zakat-eligible non-profit. Zakat donations are strictly allocated, under the oversight of three qualified Imams, to Muslims in Canada who are poor and in need, funding critical mental health support through our Financial Assistance Program.

CMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential Muslim mental health services to Muslims across Canada who are unable to afford such support. We are an established Zakat-eligible Islamic counselling organization, recognized by the Canadian Council of Imams and the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America.

Our Zakat allocation is managed by a team of three qualified and experienced Imams serving as board members, Imam Omar Patel, Mufti Abrar Ahmed Koya, and Mufti Abdulhai Patel, ensuring precision and thoroughness in the allocation of Zakat funds, strictly adhering to Zakat rules.

Allocation of Zakat funds

Funds directly support individuals experiencing financial hardship and those in need of Muslim counselling services. Eligible Zakat recipients access these funds through our Financial Assistance Program; recipients verify that they are Muslim and meet Zakat eligibility criteria.

We serve many clients who feel unsupported by conventional Western-based resources and disconnected from their Muslim identity. By providing support rooted in Islamic principles, we offer culturally and spiritually grounded care that strengthens both their Iman and overall well-being.

Through a Wakalah Zakat Contract, individuals entrust us and grant us authority to manage and distribute their Zakat funds in accordance with Islamic guidelines.

Verification of Zakat eligibility

While we approach all applicants with compassion and respect, we recognise our responsibility to ensure Zakat funds are distributed appropriately and in accordance with Islamic guidelines. Applicants to our Financial Assistance Program complete a detailed application form and provide supporting documentation.
