Muslim Grief Counselling:
Support for Muslims Navigating Loss
What Is Islamic Grief Counselling?
Islamic grief counselling, also called Islamic bereavement counselling, is therapeutic support specifically designed for Muslims navigating loss. Unlike general grief therapy, our approach integrates Islamic teachings on death, inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (indeed to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return), sabr, and the Islamic understanding of the afterlife, alongside evidence-based grief treatment methods.
Our grief support for Muslims honours both the emotional reality of your pain and the spiritual framework your faith provides.
Grief and Islam: Honouring Your Pain
In some Muslim communities, grief is misunderstood. People are told they should not cry too much, that excessive grief means a lack of tawakkul, or that they should simply make dua and move on. This approach can cause profound harm, leaving people feeling alone, ashamed of their pain, and disconnected from both their community and their faith.
Islam does not deny grief. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wept at the death of his son Ibrahim. He grieved openly for Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) years after her passing. Islamic scholars have written extensively on the permissibility and naturalness of grief. Seeking professional support for grief is entirely consistent with Islamic values, it is how you honour both your humanity and your deen.
Our muslim mental health services are built on this understanding. You will never be made to feel that your grief is excessive, un-Islamic, or a sign of weak faith.
