Hikma is a doctoral student in Health Sciences at Lakehead University, where his research focuses on cultural food security as a determinant of health, particularly within Muslim communities in Thunder Bay and across Northern Ontario. He holds a Master of Social Work from Lakehead University, where his thesis explored Islamic perspectives on basic income as a social policy in Ontario. He also holds a Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work from Laurentian University. Hikma completed his formal Islamic training at Jamiah Qasimul Uloom and has served as an Imam at the Thunder Bay Masjid for twelve years.
